7: My First Chemo Treatment

chemo1.jpg1/20/06 - Yesterday I had my port put in as well as the first chemo session.  I was really nervous, and didn’t sleep well after Travis left at 2:30am to go to work.  He did tell me “the sooner it starts, the sooner it ends”.  I watched TV until about 5 am and then slept for the next 1 ½ hour on the couch.  Getting the port in wasn’t too bad; the nurses were all very nice and supportive.  The PA that put in the port explained everything in a lot of detail.  The drugs they gave me during it were good too.  I talked to the nurses the entire time (I know that is hard to believe), they brought me to recovery, and fed me lunch and I was on my way to Dr. Unger’s office.

Anne did a blood test from my port, no needles in my arm, and then got me set up for the chemo.  I took the chair with the fish blanket of course.  It really wasn’t that bad, kind of boring.  I read some, took a nap and talked to people.  The ride home was ok; I started to feel sick.  When we got to my apartment, mom made me a sandwich to eat.  Travis came over with a beautiful arrangement of flowers and we watched a movie until I fell asleep.

1/21/06 - I stayed home from work today, I was tired and the port in my chest is hurting plenty.  I don’t feel as sick but I have been taking the meds they gave me.  I spent about an hour reading all the wonderful emails I have been getting from this site.  I am so lucky to have the friends and family that I do.  Thanks for everything, I love you all.
