16: I'm Free From My Drain |
|
March 19, 2005
Today is March 19th. I had a tough beginning of the week but I’m much better.
On Monday I had the flu. Thank God my daughter Jamie was home on spring break because I truly shouldn’t have been left alone. She was my servant and man I appreciated it. I had a 101.2 temp all day and was so weak. My entire body never hurt so bad. I’m not a bed person but I was in bed until 6:00 pm.
After an afternoon nap, and lots of Gatorade, I felt much better. Must have been a 24-hour something…
On Tuesday I felt about 80 percent better. What a difference! I was sore from my body hurting so much the day before. I felt like I had a really good workout (not) or someone had beaten the crap out of me a few days before. By Wednesday I was much better, but my drain had started to give me problems. My underarm was irritated around the tube and I felt it wasn’t long before it would get infected. I got an appointment with the doctor for the next day.
I saw Dr. Chatson on Thursday and he did remove the drain. It wasn’t the nicest experience. Although it didn’t truly hurt, it was uncomfortable. Then he added 75 cc to the expander. I don’t think he expected to put so much in, but I’ve decided that I want this over with. The more he puts in each time, the less times I’ll have to have it done. This isn’t a pleasant experience either, and to have it done week after week sucks. I just start to feel relief and I’m ready for the next treatment. So I figured we should do it up good. I handled 100 cc on the other side during surgery, so I felt I could handle this. After he was finished, he stated that he didn’t think that there was any room for fluid build-up on that breast (from the removal of the drain) because it was so tight. After the mastectomy, I had extreme fluid build-up on the other side which had to be removed three times. I’m so glad I was brave when he was doing the injection and had him keep going. It’s my call to tell him when to stop, when I feel tight enough. The less he puts in means the more visits I’ll need, and the fewer, the better. I WANT TO BE DONE!!!
Well I am sore and I’m paying for being brave, but that’ll go away. It gets better every day, just in time for the next injection. The Doc feels two more treatments, first for 55 cc and the next week for 50 cc, then I'll be done. Then I'll look forward to May 31st, when he puts the implants in.
Talk to you all soon!
