9: My Wig

October 14, 2003

Today was day #1 with the wig in public. Yesterday was a holiday so I stayed at home and didn't worry about my hair. I had blood counts drawn today. They’ve come back a great deal since last week, but not enough to get chemo tomorrow :-( . The white count is 2.6 and the GR# is only 1.3 and it needs to be 1.5 for chemo to be administered. They said they'd contact Dr. Reid to find out if I should come in for chemo tomorrow.

I wore my wig to work for the first time today, and everyone thought it looked good....almost like my natural hair! One of the guys didn't even know it was a wig until someone told him! At chorus, everyone thought it looked great! By the end of rehearsal, however, I was miserable. I was hot, my head itched and I couldn't WAIT to get it off. Of course, what little hair is left, was matted down and wet with sweat. I decided when I got home that what hair was left HAD TO GO! I had purchased a cheap ($7) pair of electric clippers at Wal-Mart for this very occasion! Buzzzzzzz....off came the hair when I got home. No more shedding, no more hair everywhere, all over my clothes, and in my bed and in my shower. I was officially a skinhead!!!! (see picture) But, boy I felt so much better!!!!
