23: Blood Counts Back Up! |
|
December 8, 2003
My blood counts were back up today! Yippee!!! My white count is 5.9, and the granulocytes are at 4.6, so I guess my Neulasta shot finally kicked in. I had a couple of "blah" days last week where I wasn't feeling up to par. I ached and had a headache after my weekly chorus rehearsal on Tuesday, and had a slight fever (99.1), so I slept in on Wed. and took it easy. I went into work after lunch and felt much better then and the rest of the week. I think I just needed some rest.

I met with Dr. Reid today for my pre-chemo checkup. All was well. My counts were fine for chemo next week. I'll get treatment number 4 on Monday, Dec. 15. He talked to me a little bit about the next cycle of chemo, using Taxol, starting in January. He said it should be much more easily tolerated than the AC cycle I'm on now (Adriamycin and Cytoxan). He prescribed a steroid (Decadron) that I am to take 12 and 6 hours before infusion. This is to prevent an allergic reaction that is apparently common with Taxol. Once again, I have to take another drug to combat the chemo! I guess I should be thankful that they've come up with new drugs to minimize the affects of chemo. I am so fortunate to have not been very sick at all!
