29: Weather Postpones Chemo

January 26, 2004

I should be writing an update about my chemo treatment today...but unfortunately, I'm not able to have my chemo treatment today because of the weather. I was out of town in South Carolina this past weekend, coaching the Foothills Harmony chorus, when a snow storm came through town, heading up the east coast. I was unable to get a flight out of the Greenville/Spartanburg airport on Sunday, and so far today (Monday) no flights are leaving until later in the day. I'm scheduled to leave at 7:00 tonight, but of course, an ice storm is expected later today, so that will make things interesting! I may never get out of here!!! ;-) I'm not sure when it will be rescheduled, but I will try for Wednesday. If I don't get out of here tonight....I won't be able to have my treatment tomorrow.

I met with Dr. Reid last Wednesday and he said everything is looking good, and I should be able to stay on a 3 week treatment schedule with Taxol. My counts never bottomed out...so that's a good thing! That's what keeps me on the 3 week schedule. The $6000 Neulasta shot is doing its work!

The only new symptom I'm having is Hot Flashes...yeeeha! This is all to be expected, because the chemo is basically killing my ovaries, so I'm going through chemically induced menopause...what fun! ! So far, they haven't been that bad. He wants me to keep track of them, the frequency and the severity, and if it gets too bad, he'll prescribe some meds to help. Since they aren't too bad, I'm not going to get more drugs. I figure I have enough chemicals in my body now! I'll wait until they become intolerable! So far, they're just annoying! ;-)

I'll write again whenever I get back in town and can have my next treatment.
