19: My Last Chemo!

4/26/06 This is it, my final day of chemo.  I have to be there at 11:40.  I had my blood test yesterday.  I go by myself, everyone is working.  Travis is going to meet me there later.  Everyone there knows it is my last day too. Ann, my nurse gives me some flowers.  I get settled in and try to take a nap, because the pre-meds make me so sleepy.  My legs and arms are restless from the meds.  Finally I am able to sleep once they start the Taxol.  I awake around 3:00, and Travis comes.  He brings me flowers as well.  A bit later my friend Christie comes and brings me balloons and chocolates.  Finally I am done and we leave before 4:00.  It is the earliest ever that I’ve gotten done.  We go to dinner that night to celebrate at Café Provence, a great restaurant in Brandon (if you’ve never been there) where I use to work.  My parents, my brother and Beth, Tina and Danny and my grandparents and Travis and I are all there.  It is a great dinner.  I am so happy to finally be done!

4/28/06 Today I have an appointment with the radiation oncologist.  The time has been changed several times.  I am there by 8:45.  I have to lay on a table with my arms over my head and have lots of x-rays taken.  It doesn’t hurt but it is so uncomfortable.  I get 4 pinpoint tattoos on my chest.  I then meet with the nurse who explained everything to me.  I set up my schedule for the 33 sessions to begin on May 10th.  Finally I had one last scan and was able to leave.  Mom and I had lunch at The Longhorn.  At 3:00, Middlebury’s Relay for Life began.  My school had a team of co-workers.  It was sunny but cool and windy.  I ended up walking 10 miles and leaving at 9:00, very cold and tired.  I walked in the survivors lap with my good friend and WW co-worker Lynne Peck who is also a cancer survivor.  I wasn’t as emotional as I thought that I was going to be.

4/29/06 Travis and I went back to the Relay site for the closing ceremonies.  The event as a whole raised over $192,000.  My team raised over $3,000 and I myself raised over $1,400.  Thank you all for the donations.

5/1/06 Back to school from vacation…I am trying to coordinate coverage for me at work while I am at radiation for the rest of the school year.  I still have some numbness in my fingers from the last chemo.  It doesn’t hurt, it is just annoying.  I am still having hot flashes, mainly at night.  I am hoping that is a side effect that will go away soon.

5/4/06 Happy Birthday Travis!!!
