Start of my chemo....

I had to have the port put in for my chemo treatments at the end of December as my first chemo treatment was Jan. 6, 2006.  The port hurt getting inserted. It is like a quarter shaped thing right under my skin. I cried on the table as they were inserting it. They have to find a better way of getting that put into someone, it was awful.  I went home after I was done, still teary eyed from the trauma.  A week later was my first chemo treatment.

The oncologist suggested I do 8 rounds of chemo. The first four were a combo of Adriamiacyn and Cytoxin. The second set of four was Taxol. They were to be a preventative because of my age (38) and because I had young children, "You want to be around for them don't you?" was his decision clenching question. Of Course I DID, what was wrong with that man??? Writing about the treatments right now; makes my stomach hurt and feel nauseated.

My husband went with me to my first treatment. It was in a room filled with reclining chairs, kind of like dentist office chairs. I had a blanket and a book. Michael took his laptop and watched a movie/listened to music. We were there about 4.5 hours. The nurses there were wonderful. The smell of them flushing out the port made me nauseated. The smell of the air freshener in the elevator made me nauseated.  I got home and just rested.  I didn't get majorly sick like I have heard that people do. I thought, "okay, this isn't so bad, I can handle it."  I had to go the following Mon to get the Nulasta shot for my white blood count. I guess I should have had it the following day instead of waiting over the weekend....
