EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit BreastCancerStories.com.  This site was started as a result of a journal I kept online  – affectionately nicknamed Bald Wendy – to keep my family and friends updated as I progressed through my breast cancer treatments in 2004.  I was 42 years old when I was diagnosed – the same age my mother was when she was first diagnosed 25 years earlier.

In my online journal I shared candid thoughts about how I was feeling physically and emotionally, and displayed photos of my head being shaved in preparation for chemo, my chemo team at the cancer center, and even photos of my nieces and nephew painting my head like an Easter egg.

To my surprise the site was shared by hundreds of people, many of whom I didn’t know and who thanked me for honestly and candidly telling my story online.  It helped them to not feel so alone.  It occurred to me at that moment that if my one story could help that many people, imagine if we could create a similar site so others could share their story and stay connected as well.

BreastCancerStories.com launched in the summer of 2006 and has received praise and support from patients and their family members, hospitals, and social workers throughout the country. Future plans include the expansion of the site to include stories of people going through any type of cancer.

I thank you again for your support and always welcome feedback.  To learn how you can help, click here.

Sincerely,

Wendy McCoole, Executive Director, Founder & Survivor
