I went into work on Monday the 9th and got what little done I could in one business day.
Then Tuesday- it was off to NH Oncology/Hematology for my first chemo treatment. I had been praying that I’d have one last period before I started chemo as the chemotherapy will put you into menopause which may sometimes be permanent.
Well- again- you have to be careful watch you wish for! I woke up Tuesday with a doosie of a one! I had cramps and discomfort to beat the band. We got to the office and I started to feel better- there was probably a little nervousness going on there too.
My mom and Todd were with me- and there were hardly any people in the waiting chairs to have chemo. I was one of the first- being there at 8:45. I sat down- got snuggled in with my moose blanket while Cindy the nurse hooked me up and went over all the medications she was giving me. Adriamycin, Cytoxin and then Ativan & Decadron for the anti-nausea. It wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated- at least the first one anyway. I sat there and it seemed as though time flew by. A couple of “Flamingo Ladies” came in to see some of the doctors and the patients. It was so great to see them- they were so animated! I asked to have my picture taken wit them- which they did. They brought tears to my eyes- when one of them asked if she could say a prayer for me.
Went thru all that- and it didn’t take too long at all. We stopped for a bite to eat on the way home. Todd went to Home Depot while my mom and I went to rent some movies and buy some materials for her to make me a pink hat.
I did pretty well Tuesday night. Wednesday got a little harder… and today- Thursday has been the hardest with tinges of nausea and tiredness and aching. I’m not very hungry- but know I have to eat things and drink the water and juice. I’m trying. I’m just not hungry at all.
Here is a picture of me during my first chemo treatment.
