As most people know- I am not a world class chef. My meaning of a meal is take out. It’s mostly because Todd and I are so busy
and I never know when we’ll/he’ll be home to eat a good meal (or at least I’m
gonna use that as my excuse!)
So- I have been cooking things here and there. I made Todd lunch quite a few times this
past week. I felt like such a good
wifey when he came home from work for lunch and sat down to a great meal. And no- it didn’t consist of a frozen meal
or out of a can! I cooked!
I decided to make a roast for Todd Friday night. I went to the grocery store and went
straight to the beef section. There I
found pot & oven roasts. I decided
a pot roast- you cook in a pot… and an oven roast- you cook in an oven…
right?! So I opted for the oven roast –
just over 2lbs.
I was so happy to tell my mom about what I had bought- and her question to me
was “you bought a what?”
I also told Jessica who made me think that choosing meat and
cooking it was harder than I was anticipating.
I guess I might’ve oversimplified things… you buy an oven roast, you
cook it in the oven. What could go
wrong? And if it did- it was my first
roast- so that would be my learning curve!
I spent that afternoon on Friday boiling potatoes and making
Todd’s grandmother’s recipe for mashed potatoes (in my opinion- the very best
mashed potatoes in the world!). I used
the mill to make the lumpless potatoes (there will be NO LUMPS!) that Todd’s
mom had given me for Christmas year’s back.
I tend to forget of all the cool cooking stuff that I have… and don’t
get to use…
I then put the roast in the pan with some carrots around it
and cooked it for the amt of time it said on the directions on the outside of
the roast.
LET ME TELL YOU…. It was SHANTASTIC if I do say so
myself! I was so proud of myself! I would’ve taken a picture of it if I
could’ve found the camera right away!
Now I’m ready to take on the kitchen… grocery store- LOOK
OUT- here I come!
