11/29/06 - 4th Chemo & Thanksgiving |
|
Well- the last of the AC treatments was last Tuesday- which means that I am now HALFWAY thru Chemo! That calls for a HUGE- WOOHOO!!!
The last treatment went the same as all others- except I felt a little more run down towards the end of the "recovery" period. Maybe it was all the turkey from Thanksgiving...hmmm...
Feeling better today and enjoying the weather reports... no- not because its like 60 degrees out the rest of this week, it's because there is supposed to be S-N-O-W in the forecast. Be it up north or down here- the little pictures they show for the extended forecast show little snow flurries. I'm patiently waiting for the snow in the backyard so I can take my Christmas card picture. My cat Indy needs to be outside in the snow for it to be appropriate... not wet rainy grass- that's no fun!
Thanksgiving went well for us. We decided to do it the Sunday before so that I could fully enjoy all of the food and great company! My mom came over early and helped to create a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. I put the frozen turkey in the refridgerator long enough to unthaw- per the directions- 2-3 days. I took it out and found ice still inside it. That freaked me out at first. Then we put the turkey in the oven for the allotted 4 hours. We continued to make a few things and then took a road trip in my town to pick up something she had gotten off of Ebay.
Todd gave me directions and I knew where we needed to go. We were off- while Todd kept an eye on the turkey.
I forgot to take a right and then quickly knew that we were not headed in the right direction. I pulled over to call Todd on my cell and confirm with him which turn I had forgotten. At that point a local police officer pulled up next to me in the road and asked if my mom and I needed help? I was quick to say "No, we're all set" - when my mom called out from the passenger seat "We're lost!". The officer proceeded to ask what town we were looking for, and I'm thinking - "Oh boy, I know exactly where I am- I'm in my home town!". My mom called out the streets we were looking for and the officer proceeded to tell us to follow him- he would escort us. I quickly told Todd that we had to go- we had a police escort!
The officer did a U-turn in the middle of the street- and I quickly told my mom that I thought that was illegal- but proceeded to break the law and do one too. Then he took off! He was surely speeding! What would happen if I caught up to him- would he pull over- let me pass him- and then pull me over for speeding? Quite comical we both thought. He got us to where we were heading- and we were truely greatful! He was super nice to help out two stranded women, it must've been the new hair - hee hee!
Well- after we did that - we got home and discovered that the little button on the turkey had popped out. It was only in for 2.5 hours?!?! I put the meat thermometer in it and found that it was to temperature- yup- it was done! We were planning to eat around 1- and it was only 11:30! We kept it in the oven for the next couple of hours and kept it on warm. Amazingly enough it didn't dry out- and was pretty good!
We put it on the turkey platter and I went to put it on the table and it slid- and almost wound up taking a digger off of the plate onto the floor! But due to my cat-like reflexes (yeah right!) I was able to keep it on the plate- and another crisis was averted!
Next Tuesday is my first of 4 Taxol treatments. This drug takes longer to administer so I will be having my appointment in the morning. Side effects are less overwhelming- so drugs after to help the side effects aren't typically needed. There may be additional hair loss, tingling in the hands/feet, nauseau and the most severe might be the pain in the muscles and joints. This typically comes a couple days after and lasts for a couple of days.
I want to say another BIG HUGMONGOUS THANK YOU to everyone for continuing to keep me and Todd in your thoughts and prayers! Some days are a lot harder than others- and I wouldn't be able to keep a smile on my face and in my heart if it wasn't for all the love and support that surrounds us. So- Thank you all!
Here is a picture of Todd and I at my 4th chemo session... notice the insta-hair!
